Tristesse De La Lune - A Heart Whose Love Is Innocent (2003)

Tristesse de la Lune (translates to "Sadness of the Moon" in French) is an electropop group founded by German musicians Kati Roloff and Gini Martin, who gained fame as the female vocalists in Blutengel for songs as "Weg Zu Mir," "Fairyland(Female Version)", "Seelenschmerz", "I'm Dying Alone" among others. Both left Blutengel at the end of 2001 for personal and unknown reasons, and as they said in a 2002 interview "Blutengel was becoming too cliché", and formed Tristesse de la Lune. Their songs typically have romantic lyrics usually inspired in their personal lives or books. They are on Out of Line Music and are one of the main bands of the label.

Kati left Tristesse de la Lune early 2007 but Gini carries on the name and has recorded six songs (as of February 2007) for a new album. A sound sample is available on the official website.

Blutengel - Seelenschmerz (2001)

Blutengel (German: Blood Angel) is a German Futurepop musical group. It was formed by singer Chris Pohl (also of the groups Terminal Choice, Tumor, and Miss Construction and the owner of the Fear Section label) after he had to leave Seelenkrank due to contractual and legal problems. Formed in 1998, Blutengel uses melodious electronic tunes in combination with both male and female voices, with songs often focusing on all aspects of love, from the tragedy of hopeless romance of vampires (all the way to the more animal aspects of desire) and aspects of death and the beyond travel. The first album Child of Glass, released in early 1999 and soon conquered the clubs and the hearts of the already existing fan community but also attracted a huge number of new fans with songs like "Weg Zu mir" and "Beauty of Suffering". Kati Roloff and Nina Bendigkeit were responsible for the female vocals at that time. However, although the album was still present in the minds of the people, things became quiet for the project itself for quite a long time.

Finally, in 2001, the second anxiously anticipated album Seelenschmerz was released and initiated a new era in Blutengel's short band history. In my opinion one of the best albums in the past ten years.

Terminal Choice - Keine Macht (2009) CD-EP

Terminal Choice is a German electronic rock band. It was formed by singer Chris Pohl (also of Blutengel, Tumor, Pain of Progress and owner of the Fear Section label) in 1993. Their lyrics are sung in German and English. The sound was originally primarily electronic music, but with the 1998 album Navigator, guitars were added.

Seelenkrank - Engelsschrei (1997)

Seelenkrank was a German music project of Chris Pohl. The objective was to create a more intimate sound than the industrial stomp of Terminal Choice. Female vocals were included in this project, all them performed by Nina Bendigkeit. However, Nina's main job during concerts was performance rather than singing. Chris would go on to record two albums for the Machinenwelt Records in this style, though the name had to be dropped after Pohl left the label due to contractual issues. The project lives on today with a new label and also a new name: Blutengel.

Due to legal difficulties, the albums were out of print for 10 years, although Chris Pohl has recently won the legal battle which has allowed him to reissue them on his own label Fear Section.

The Church - Starfish (1985)

The Church is an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1980. Initially associated with new wave and the neo-psychedelic sound of the mid 1980s, their music later became more reminiscent of progressive rock, featuring long instrumental jams and complex guitar interplay. The Church was responsible, in my opinion for some of the most delicious and brilliant indie songs in the 80s, such as Under The Milky Way, Destination, Columbus, Myrrh, among others.

Chrome - Into The Eyes Of The Zombie King (1984)

Chrome was an experimental rock group founded in San Francisco, California in 1976. Chrome took part of their inspiration for their rough and sometimes chaotic music from proto punk pioneers like The Stooges. The sound of the group was often coarse and featured heavy elements of feedback and distortion. Their experiments in mixing synthesized noise with rock instrumentation have been cited as a forerunner of industrial rock music.

After the 1st album (The Visitation, 1976), and some line-up changes, Damon Edge (founder) and Helios Creed (guitars from 77 on) established a successful line-up basis. The Edge/Creed period was the most remarkable to me (78/82), and with some very good releases amidst. Damon Edge then moved to Europe and kept recording under Chrome’s name alone until his death (1996), when Helios Creed, then, turned the Chrome’s name into himself in order to keep releasing under Chrome’s also. Into The Eyes Of The Zombie King was the Damon Edge 1st release after the break with Helios Creed.

Frontline Assembly - State Of Mind (1988)

Front Line Assembly (FLA) is a Canadian electro-industrial band formed by Bill Leeb in 1986 after leaving Skinny Puppy. Influenced by early Industrial acts such as Cabaret Voltaire, Portion Control, D.A.F., Test Dept, SPK, and Severed Heads, FLA has developed its own unique sound while combining elements of electronic body music (EBM). The band's membership has rotated through several members over the years, including Rhys Fulber and Michael Balch who are both associated with several other successful artists. FLA was one of the first, and one of the most influence bands which made to turn my heart to the industrial/electronica genre from then forward.

Curve - Doppelgänger (1992)

Curve was an english alternative-rock / dream-pop group formed in 1990, chiefly around the collaboration of singer/songwriter Toni Halliday and Dean Garcia (bassist/guitarist/programmer). As Curve, Halliday and Garcia released three acclaimed and increasingly successful EPs throughout 1991 on Anxious Records, and made an impact on the UK album charts in 1992 with their debut LP Doppelgänger. The group also toured extensively during this period. Curve's second LP, the harder-edged Cuckoo (1993), did not repeat the UK Top 20 success of the band's debut. That coupled with the stressfulness of the tour in support of the record, may have contributed to Halliday and Garcia's decision, in 1994, to disband the group. ‘’ Doppelgänger’’ remains to me one the best musical references from that period.

VNV Nation - Judgement (2007)

VNV Nation are a British/Irish electronic music band originally from Wexford, Ireland and London, United Kingdom and now based in Hamburg, Germany. They combine elements of electro-industrial, trance, synthpop and electronic body music (EBM). The "VNV" in the name stands for Victory, not Vengeance, in keeping with the group's motto, "One should strive to achieve, not sit in bitter regret." The group's first album, Advance and Follow, was released in 1995. This was a mixture of danceable synthesizer melodies and harsh electronic beats firmly in the tradition of middle-era EBM, supplemented with elements of orchestral music. Their next release, 1998's Praise the Fallen, continued largely in this vein, and they began to enjoy a larger degree of commercial success. For a long time VNV has a place on my primary choices, and stands among my favourite acts.
